Conditions for renting a vehicle are often bewildering and can lead to resentment when the invoice amount is reflected on the credit card. First Car Rental Tanzania explains some of the most common areas of confusion from payment to rental conditions.
Q: What methods of payment do we accept?
A: We accept all major credit cards including American Express, Diners Card, MasterCard and Visa. We can either charge your credit card or recieve cash when you arrive at the rental kiosk for collection. We shall institute a 5% credit card charge on the total rental value.
Q: What is the minimum age to rent a car from First Car Rental?
A: You should be 23 or older with a valid driver’s licence that you have held for 2 or more years.
Q: What type of driver's licence is accepted at First Car Rental?
A: A valid Tanzanian Drivers license or a valid international drivers license with your passport copy will be accepted and english translation is required for licenses recorded in a foreign language. We also accept driver licenses issued by Southeren Afircan Development Community (SADC) member states.
Q: What do you need to bring when you hire a car from First Car Rental?
A: Please bring your valid drivers license card or a valid international drivers license with a copy of your passport.

The renter will be assisted in the following way:
Battery Jump-start
If the vehicle's battery is dead, the service provider will jump-start the vehicle in order to ensure the vehicle can be safely driven to the nearest service centre.
Vehicle Lockout Service
In the event of keys being locked in the vehicle, a locksmith will be appointed to unlock the vehicle, at the renter’s expense.
Emergency Fuel Delivery
If the vehicle runs out of fuel, a limited supply of fuel will be delivered to the renter to enable you to reach the nearest petrol station. (Cost of the fuel and delivery fee for the renter’s account).
Extrication/Winching Service
If a vehicle becomes stuck, it will be extricated or winched as long as it is adjacent to a passable, established road or thoroughfare and can be safely reached from the hard road surface, at the renter’s expense.
Towing Service
Sometimes a breakdown will occur at inconvenient locations. If the vehicle breaks down and requires towing, contact First Car Rental and we will appoint a towing operator to tow the vehicle to the nearest repairer.
Q: What happens if you get traffic fines?
A: The renter is liable for payment of all traffic fines, relating to penalties as a result of the drivers fault. In the event a traffic fine is issued resulting to a penalty in respect of the rented vehicle, please call First Car Rental emergency number at : +255 756 885588.
Q: Are there any hidden costs?
A: No, none at all.
Q: When will my final invoice be ready?
A: It is available as soon as the contract is closed, which for most renters is immediately after rental termination.There are instances that this is longer subject to the situation for refuelling, damages or similar.
Q: Should I fill my car up with fuel before I return it?
A: Yes. When a vehicle is returned to us at any one of our locations, you are required to refuel the vehicle with the same fuel quantity as granted upon commencement of the rental. We shall charge $2/litre should the vehicle not be refuelled to the appropriate levels.
Q: What is First Car Rental’s typical rental cycle?
A: Our car rentals are charged in 24-hour cycles. Late return of vehicles will result in renter’s being charged for an additional day.
Q: What if I want to extend my rental period?
A: If you wish to extend the rental beyond the original return date, authorization must be obtained from First Car Rental prior to the expiry of your rental agreement. Contact your branch directly. Failure to do so will result in First Car Rental reporting the car stolen and it immediately negates all waivers. Additional days will be charged directly to your credit card or by cash at the extension rates.
Q: What are the rules for crossing borders into other countries?
A: All Vehicles rented are required to be driven within the national borders of the United Republic of Tanzania.. Our vehicles are not permitted to be driven outside the national borders. Please contact the nearest First Car Rental branch for further request for cross border rules into other countries. What are rules governing free kilometres for vehicle rentals? We provide free 120km per day. at no extra cost. Any additional milege shall be levied at $0.8/km.
Q: What additional services do we offer?
A: We offer the following services at the renters expense: GPS Rental - We charge $10/day WIFI Services - We currently offer FREE WiFi service on all Airport transfer designated vehicles in Dar es Salaam, we shall be expanding to other cities in the coming months. Collectiction Service - We offer collection / delivery service within the city of Dar es Salaam at the rate of $20 per collection. Baby Seat - We provide baby seat for children under 2 years of age at a charge of $10/day.
Q: What type of roadside assistance do you offer?
A: We provide 24/7 roadside assistance whereby renters can telephone our emergency number .We have a vehicle and driver on call 24/7 to assist. We offer this service FREE of charge. In the event of a breakdown in rural areas within Tanzania, we manage to provide details of the nearest garage / service station to have the vehicle repaired as our emergency vehicles rush out to proved assistance we handout a replacement vehicle to the renter as we manage to fix to the original leased vehicle.r
Q: Are the vehicles equiped with tracking devices?
A: .All our vehicles are equipped with vehicle tracking devices to locate the vehicle real time with a click of a button.
Q: What liability waivers do you offer?
A: We offer Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and theft Theft Protection (TP) for all self drive rentals. The cost of this waivers are included in the rental price and no further hidden charges are levied. Please refer to the Rental Agreement (RA) box 51 & 52 relating to CDW and TP responsibility in the event of vehicle damage. this is the maximum the client is liable for in the event of damage or theft of our rental vehicle.
Q: Do you offer the option of topping up to a lower liability amount at an increased daily rate?
A: We do not offers renters the option to top up to a lower liability amount at an increased daily rate.

A: First Car Rental requires payment on arrival rather than payment on termination. Renters are required to pay in full daily rental amount upon collection of their vehicle.
